Live games and multi-table tournaments.
A blog of all section with no images
I am taking a break from poker this week; we?ll see how that works out... maybe it?ll be longer. I?m also currently reading Phil Gordon?s Little Green Book and so far it?s pretty good. There were 3 tournaments last week & 1 cash game, that?s getting a little out of hand ? I was more comfortable with 2 games per week. Don?t get me wrong, I love playing cards & would play every day if I could. But I?d also like to do other things during the week.
Sunday & Tuesday?s tournaments we?re the same old story for me. Although my girlfriend played Sunday for the first time there and did much better then me. She bluffed a nice pot she?d been betting at & got the other guy to fold the same hand she was holding. I was very impressed with her. I can?t say the same about my play though, playing so far below the level I?m used to? that would change in the next few nights.
Thursday night was a cash game and there was a ton of people wanting to play, I think two had to be turned away. The game was heating up really fast and everyone was betting like there was no tomorrow. One guy went out & had to buy in after a few hands. I was getting frustrated with the monster raises and decided to hurt someone. 5/6 offsuit and the bet was raised & reraised preflop. I wasn?t going to be bullied around, I called pretty much 50% of my stack and the flop came 5, 5, 7. Two guys were already all-in and I checked to the raiser. He put me pretty much all-in and I threw in the rest. He flipped over his KK and was dejected to see my Trip 5?s. The river 5 made my quads & I raked in $80+. Nobody was happy I called that preflop betting with 5/6 but I explained I was playing steamed from earlier hands. The very next hand I was dealt AA and raised with two other callers. The flop came rags, so I put the other two all-in and they called with 8/8 & Q/Q. Two big pots in a row and I?m sitting with $100+ in my pocket.
Friday night was another tournament at the firehouse. I felt extremely good about this game and started playing better then usual. I was folding a ton of hands & only playing certain one?s while winning 100% of my showdowns. I was in a zone until dealt AA and I raised huge preflop. Two callers, one of which flopped low pair and decided to hang around for god knows what. He hit his trips and cracked my aces. I was so annoyed I didn?t even show my hand. After being crippled and on the brink of extinction, I?m dealt 5/5 and call a bet preflop. Q/10/5 (hearts) comes out and I have to move in right now with trip 5?s. Two callers and the river flushed both of them. One sitting on the Ace & the other on the Jack I think. I was playing amazing poker before the Aces, still has me thinking what went wrong so it doesn?t happen again.

Happy New Year
I played my first & last parlay of the year last night with Oakland & the over. The over was well in the bag and all Oakland needed to do was score a FG or TD to cover. First & goal on the ONE yard line, stopped. Second & goal on the ONE yard line, stopped. Third & goal, stopped, 4th & goal, stopped. And Oakland disappoints my new year, which would?ve been a nice $150 payout.
Started the year with a good one? Buffalo -2.5 & the over. The over is secured in the 3rd quarter and I?m sitting pretty good when Buffalo goes up by 3 with Five minutes left? until the kickoff & let the Jets return the kick for a touchdown. So close to covering both parlays.
Now I?ve got the rest of my money on the Redskins & the Over? this time I took a 6-point teaser. The Skins only have to win by 2 & the total points be over 32. Now that?s gotta be a lock, c?mon. $50 to win $92? lets go SKINS!
Poker Update: Tournament today @ 6pm, the girlfriend is playing for the 1st time.

Like a house, poker requires a foundation. Only when that foundation issolidly in place can you proceed to build on it. When all the structural elements are in place, you can then add flourishes and decorative touches. But you can't begin embellishing it until the foundation has been poured, the building framed, and all the other elements that come before it are in place. That's our purpose here: to put first things first - to give you a basic understanding of what you need before you begin to play.

Like the American Dream, poker is good for you: It enriches the soul, sharpens the intellect, heals the spirit, and when played well - nourishes the wallet. Above all else, poker forces the player to face reality and deal with it head-on. Oh, sure, people can ignore those realities - lots of players do. They are the ones who lose consistently, and rather than face the deficiencies in their own game, persist in placing the blame on fate, on the dealer,...

Poker has always been a microcosm of all we admire about American virtuel. It is part of the very fabric Americans have spent more than 220 years weaving into a national mosaic. Call it the American Dream -the belief that hard work and virtue will triumph, that anyone willing to work hard will succeed, that right makes might. It is an immigrant's song, a mantra of hope; it is an anthem for everyone.

Poker has always been America's game, but poker is changing these days. In a big way. Ask a friend or neighbor with only a casual knowledge of the game to offer an image of poker, and one of three pictures is likely to appear:
